Project Description

This is the clock that almost did not get made. Every bit of common sense, of which I have little, told me it was impossible. The scale model I made fell apart. Too top-heavy-no way to tie the bonnet to the base. Everything about the design is and was impractical. The secret to saving it: Earth magnets!

Will they stop the movement? Cause it not to tell time? So far it’s working fine. Rod chimes? Never again-means a separate level for those things than where the movement sits on a seat board. So, invent a sled to ride that rod chime gadget on and make five versions of it before you get a perfect match.

Lifting the bonnet onto the top of the base required the help of four guys with stevedore proportions and skills. At a height of seven feet and change, the clock required that the guy who installed the movement had to stand on a box.
